2011 Road Events

160km Road Race

2006 saw the first staging of this event, and it proved to be a huge success - ideal for Ironman aspirants, as well as the cyclist looking to push him/herself that little bit further!

The 2007 race showed further growth and there were 28 finishes. John-Lee Augustyn won this race in 04:19:04.

The race starts at 05h00 and will take you to the other side of Pearston (along the 100km race route), back to Somerset East, through to Cookhouse and back again. It's tough enough to solidify your Ironman bike leg!

Features for 2011 include:

- "Special nutritional needs" pitstop.
- Pre-entries essential - unfortunately no entries on race day
- Tri Bars permitted

100km Road Race

The 100km race starts in Somerset East, turns around in Pearston, and finishes in Somerset East.

The first 25 km is tough and hilly. There are 10 moderate hills to an exhilarating descent of the Bruintjieshoogte pass. The 25km to the turnaround consists of rolling hills to flatlands, and so is the stretch back to the foot of Bruintjieshoogte pass. The Bruintjies is a tough climb of 4km, but once over the summit, it's a great ride home, with only two moderate (and a hard 1km) climbs before reaching home.

The route is scenic, quiet and the road surface mostly good, with game sightings common. It is a great Argus training race, and an ideal Herald sharpener, which takes place two weeks later.

At the finish, there is a festive atmosphere, with music, food stalls, beer tent etc.

50km Road Race

The 50km race starts in Somerset East, follows the 100km route but will turn around at the top of Bruintjieshoogte Pass and finish in Somerset East

20km Road Race

The 20km race starts in Somerset East, follows the 100km route but will turn around 10km outside Somerset East and finish in Somerset East
